Abstract: For this project, we seek to apply machine learning techniques to address the prevalence of fake news in the state of Virginia. Utilizing pre-labeled training data on fake and real news articles, our machine learning algorithm will be designed to classify articles as real or fake and to rank their probability of belonging to that particular class. Given that our dataset contains labeled samples, our main approaches will involve supervised learning algorithms.
